The Rolex antimagnetic watch Ref. 1019 was launched in 1960 to replace the first generation antimagnetic watch Ref. 6541 (nicknamed Lightning Bolt). The reference name Milgaussis a combination of the French word of 1000 ‘Mille’, and ‘Gauss’ - the unit used to measure magnetism, as to state that the watch can withstand 1000 gauss of magnetism. The calibre 1580 of this reference features a special spiral and an antimagnetic inner cap to guarantee its antimagnetic function.
